Anyone acquainted with Lissa Hanner knows she is a big animal lover. You'll find multiple dogs, cats and horses at her mountain ranch outside Guffey. She also fosters dogs for All Breed Rescue in Colorado Springs, and through them, she has gotten to know some of the people at the Humane Society of the Pikes Peak Region in the same city.
"I approached them [Humane Society of the Pikes Peak Region] and offered the use of a song I had recently written called ‘Dog On A Chain,'" Hanner says. "But after discussing it, I decided to write a song specifically for them."
The result is "Take Me Home," a song she recorded on June 16 at Jay's Place studio in Nashville. Backed by Jay Vern on keyboards, Sam Hunter on guitar and bass, and Austin Valentine on drums, Hanner gives the song a bouncy, soft rock arrangement.
The Humane Society of the Pikes Peak Region is one of 50 shelters competing in the ASPCA Rachel Ray Challenge for up to $100,000 in grant money. "Take Me Home" is going to be used by the Humane Society of the Pikes Peak Region in a campaign to boost adoptions during the competition period that runs from June 1 through Aug. 31, 2014.
Lissa is coordinating her efforts with Marsha Wayman, Grants and Corporate Relations Manager for the organization. Wayman is planning to have a video shot for "Take Me Home" as part of the campaign.
